OUR MISSION
Creating a diverse, inclusive, artistic culture
The goal of Durham Ballet Theatre is to create an artistic platform that is culturally inclusive while promoting artistry, development of technique, and dance in all its forms. We take pride in the fact that our company is very diverse; we cast solely from auditions that are open to the public and invite professional guest artists to collaborate with the cast. We strive to see more children and adults of diverse ethnic backgrounds and varied abilities find their way to performing with our company.
OUR VALUES
Beautiful performances created with professionalism, education, and collaboration
OUR HISTORY
Founded in 2009, Durham Ballet Theatre sought to fill a void in the performing arts sphere.
When our Artistic Director, Boelyn Willis, noticed a void of opportunities for adult dancers and the gap in diversity among many ballet companies, she sought a way to offer the magical experience of a full-scale professional quality production that welcomed performers of all ages and skill levels. From there, Durham Ballet Theatre was born.
DBT offers opportunities for groups underserved economically, culturally, and artistically in the Durham Community. Participants in DBT productions receive rigorous training in ballet, modern, and aerial dance while also acquiring important life skills like teamwork, creative collaboration, discipline, and focus.
